Jeff S. Korek Steps Down as President of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 25, 2008 -- Jeff S. Korek, of Gersowitz, Libo & Korek, will end his one year post as President of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association on June 30, 2008. Nicholas Papain, Leading New York Personal Injury Attorney (http://www.triallaw1.com) of Sullivan, Papain, Block, McGrath & Cannavo, will succeed him as President.
"It has been my honor and privilege to serve as President of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association," remarked Mr. Korek. "NYSTLA is the single most effective defender of injured individuals, and will continue to stand up for consumer rights against corporate interests."
Mr. Korek exhibited great leadership through a year of unprecedented tumult and change in New York State. Amidst the shake-ups in Albany and invigorated attacks by self-proclaimed "tort-reformers," NYSTLA was steadfast and unequivocal in its commitment to protecting consumers and the civil justice system. NYSTLA mobilized to defend the rights of medical malpractice victims and to focus attention on the epidemic of medical errors that threaten patient safety as a member of the New York State Task Force on Medical Malpractice Insurance, exhibited determined support of worker safety in taking on business interests which sought to undo New York's Scaffold Law, and successfully defended consumers from insurance lobbies looking to take away rights of those injured in accidents.
"Jeff has embodied what it is to be a fighter," said Assembly member Adriano Espaillat. "He is demonstrated not just a knowledge of law, but the ability and willingness to effectively engage in the politics of D.C., Albany, and New York City."
In the year of Mr. Korek's presidency, he spearheaded many different projects. Working to increase membership and participation statewide, Mr. Korek traveled to every affiliate (Long Island, Staten Island, Westchester, Mid Hudson, Capitol, Southern Tier, Upstate, Genesee Valley, and Western) to meet with members and potential members. NYSTLA's annual Lobby Day was a great success, as nearly 150 NYSTLA members traveled to Albany to discuss civil justice issues with over 180 elected officials at the State Capitol on May 19-20, 2008.
NYSTLA's has succeeded in defending and enhancing New York's civil justice system despite decades of relentless attacks and an explosion of legislative initiatives targeting the rights of injured consumers. "Now, more than ever, I am determined to wage an aggressive battle against corporate interests that put profits over people," said incoming President Nick Papain.
The New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA) (http://www.nystla.org) is a 4,000 member organization of Trial Attorneys representing consumers. It was formed in 1953 to assure that the wrongfully injured have full access to the civil justice system.

Writing a Killer Opening Line
Starting writing is like casting a hook into a river. The opening line is probably the single most important sentence you are going to write in your piece. Over the years writers have spent large chunks of their creative time getting the "right" start, the one that will draw readers in and make them move on to the second sentence, then the third, until they are hooked. Then the writer can relax a bit and reel the readers in at a more leisurely pace.
